Once your activation email from Quokka Net arrives, your VostroNet service is ready to use. VostroNet is built into apartment blocks, build-to-rent developments and student accommodation, so where you plug in depends a little on your building. This guide shows you how to get your router online, and what to check if it won’t connect.
Quick start
- Find your VostroNet connection in your apartment: usually a network wall port or a small connection box. Can’t find it? Call us and we’ll help.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from it to the WAN port on your router.
- Set your router’s internet connection type to the one in your activation email. On VostroNet that’s Dynamic IP (also called DHCP or IPoE), with no username or password.
- Turn on the router and wait a few minutes for it to connect.
If you bought your router from us, plug it in: on Dynamic IP it connects by itself.
Set up your router
Use the connection type in your activation email. On VostroNet that’s Dynamic IP (DHCP or IPoE), so most routers connect automatically once they’re plugged in, with no username or password.
Your router needs:
- a WAN Ethernet port
- to support Dynamic IP (DHCP or IPoE) on that port. Most routers do, and many use it by default.
- not to be locked to another provider. Routers supplied by other internet providers often are.
If you’re bringing your own router, set its connection type to the one in your activation email. Our router setup guides show where to find that setting on popular routers.
Not working?
First, check for a VostroNet outage. If there’s one in your building, there’s nothing to fix at home.
- If your apartment has a connection box, check it has power and none of its lights are red.
- Check your router is plugged in with its WAN port, and the cable is firmly in at both ends.
- Check your router’s connection type matches your activation email. If it’s asking for a username and password on Dynamic IP, it’s set to PPPoE: change the connection type.
- Turn off your router (and the connection box, if you have one), wait a minute, then turn them back on.
