Once your activation email from Quokka Net arrives, your Vision Network service is ready to use. How you connect your router depends on your home: some apartment buildings use the building’s phone wiring, through a small Vision box called an NTU, and other homes have fibre all the way in. This guide covers both.

Which kind of connection do I have?

  • You have a Vision NTU, a small box that plugs into your phone wall socket, with Power and Diag lights: your building uses its phone wiring (fibre to the building). Follow Connecting through a Vision NTU below.
  • You have a fibre connection box on a wall, with a fibre cable plugged into it: follow Connecting to a fibre box below.

Not sure? Call us and we’ll check.

Connecting through a Vision NTU

  1. Connect the NTU’s uplink port to your phone wall socket with a phone cable.
  2. Connect the NTU to the DSL port on your router.
  3. Plug the NTU and your router into power.
  4. Set up your router with the details in your activation email.

Your router needs a DSL port that supports VDSL2. A router with only a WAN Ethernet port, like most mesh Wi-Fi systems, won’t work on its own.

When it’s working, the NTU’s Power light is solid green and its Diag light is off. What the other light patterns mean is in our Vision NTU guide.

Your speed also depends on the quality of your building’s phone wiring.

Connecting to a fibre box

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the fibre box’s Ethernet port to the WAN port on your router.
  2. Plug in your router and turn it on.
  3. Set up your router with the details in your activation email.

Don’t unplug or bend the fibre cable going into the box.

Set up your router

  • If you bought your router from us and your service uses PPPoE, you’ll usually need to finish the router’s setup wizard: connect to its Wi-Fi (the name and password are on its label), or open its app, choose PPPoE and enter the details from your activation email. On Dynamic IP, it connects by itself.
  • If you’re bringing your own, it needs to suit your connection (see above), and mustn’t be locked to another provider. Set its internet connection type to the one in your activation email: PPPoE, with the username and password from the email, or Dynamic IP (also called DHCP or IPoE), with no username or password.

Our router setup guides show where to find these settings on popular routers.

Not working?

First, check for a Vision Network outage. If there’s one in your area, there’s nothing to fix at home.

  1. Check the NTU or fibre box has power, and its lights.
  2. Check every cable is firmly in at both ends: the phone cable in the wall socket, and your router in the right port (DSL for an NTU, WAN for a fibre box).
  3. Check your router’s connection type, and the username and password if you need them.
  4. Turn off your router and the NTU or fibre box, wait a minute, then turn the box on first and the router a couple of minutes later.
