What is Frontier Networks?
Frontier Networks is a privately owned network, separate from the nbn, that builds fibre into residential estates in Queensland.
Frontier is now part of Neoloop, which also runs the VostroNet and Lynham networks, but your Frontier address still connects on the Frontier network. It is a wholesale network, so you buy your internet from a retail provider like Quokka Net.
Unlike many providers, we're on nine networks, so if you move, there's a good chance we can come with you.

Frontier fibre
Most Frontier homes have fibre, often with a Huawei HG8546M box. Connect a network cable from the port labelled LAN1 on the box to your router. Frontier fibre does not use a VLAN.

A small number of Frontier homes connect over VDSL through the phone wiring. You will need a VDSL modem that supports PPPoE and VLAN tagging, set to PPPoE on VLAN 100.

Frontier Networks questions, answered
Is Frontier Networks the same as the nbn?
No. Frontier Networks is a separate, privately owned network. Like the nbn, it is a wholesale network: you buy your internet from a retail provider such as Quokka Net, not from Frontier Networks itself.
Can I choose my own provider on Frontier Networks?
Yes. Frontier Networks is open to many retail providers, so you can choose the one that suits you. Check your address and we will confirm whether we can connect your place.
How do I know if my address is on Frontier Networks?
Use the address checker on this page. Frontier builds fibre into residential estates in Queensland, so if you have moved into a new Queensland estate there is a chance it is Frontier.
Are there any connection fees?
Quokka Net charges $0 activation on Frontier Networks plans. Frontier Networks may charge a $300 new development fee if you are the first connection in a newly developed area, or the first connection in an established area where the number of premises has increased. If your address is classed as a subsequent install, there is a $299 new line fee. We will tell you about either fee before we go ahead.
Do I need a special router for Frontier Networks?
It depends on your connection. On Frontier fibre, most homes, connect your router to the LAN1 port on the Huawei box, with no VLAN. On the rare Frontier VDSL services, you need a VDSL modem that supports PPPoE and VLAN 100.
What speed will I get?
Not every Frontier Networks address can get every speed. The address checker shows the plans available at yours. Each plan lists its typical evening speed, which is the speed most customers can expect between 7pm and 11pm. Your actual speed also depends on your Wi-Fi, your devices and what you are connecting to.
What if Frontier Networks is down?
Check for Frontier Networks outages and our service status, then try a few quick fixes at home. If it's still down, contact your provider: they raise the fault with the network for you.
Am I locked into a contract?
No. Frontier Networks plans are month-to-month, so you can change speed or leave without an exit fee.
What happens if I move house?
We'll help you through the whole move. Tell us your new address and move date, and we'll check what's available there and order a new service at your new place, ready for your move. If your new place is on a different network, you choose from the plans available there. If you're already with us, we'll close your old service once the new one is live, so you're not paying twice.
