A small number of Frontier Networks homes connect over VDSL, through the building’s phone wiring. To get online, you need a VDSL modem router set to PPPoE on VLAN 100. Most Frontier homes have fibre instead, and don’t use a VLAN. This page lists the settings and how to connect it.

If your home has a Huawei fibre box instead, see the Huawei HG8546M guide.

What you need

A VDSL modem router that:

  • has a DSL port and supports VDSL2
  • supports PPPoE (a username and password)
  • supports VLAN tagging, so you can set the VLAN ID to 100

Routers supplied by other internet providers are often locked, so they may not work even if they meet these requirements.

Settings

Setting Value
Connection type (WAN type) VDSL, PTM
Authentication PPPoE
VLAN ID 100
Username and password From the activation email we send when your service is connected

Where these settings are depends on your router. Most have them under Internet, WAN or Network settings, and the VLAN setting may be under an advanced or ISP-specific section.

Connect your router

  1. Connect a phone cable from your router’s DSL port to the phone wall socket.
  2. Plug in your router and turn it on.
  3. Open your router’s settings page in a web browser. The address is usually on a label on the router.
  4. Enter the settings above, and save.
  5. Wait a few minutes. The router’s DSL light should go solid, then its internet light.

Not connecting?

  • DSL light off or flashing: the router isn’t getting a signal from the phone line. Check the cable is firmly in the right wall socket, and try another socket if you have one.
  • DSL light solid, but no internet: check the VLAN ID is 100 and the username and password are typed exactly as in your activation email.
