The D-Link DIR-853 (AC1300) is a Wi-Fi router that plugs into your connection box with an Ethernet cable. This guide shows how to set up its internet connection for Quokka Net, and what its lights and ports are.

The DIR-853 has no DSL port, so it can’t plug into a phone socket on its own. On nbn FTTN or FTTB, use a modem router like the NetComm NF18Mesh instead.

Set up the internet connection

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the router’s WAN port to the Ethernet port on your connection box (the nbn box, or your fibre network’s box).
  2. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable or over Wi-Fi.
  3. Open a web browser and go to http://dlinkrouter.local or http://192.168.0.1.
  4. Enter the admin password. If you haven’t set one yet, leave it blank. Click Log In.
  5. In the Settings menu at the top, click Internet.
  6. Choose the connection type in the activation email we sent when your service was connected:
    • Dynamic IP (like Opticomm, SUPA Networks, VostroNet and some nbn services): choose Dynamic IP (DHCP). There’s no username or password.
    • PPPoE (like Neoloop and some nbn services): choose PPPoE, and enter the Username and Password from the email. Set Reconnect Mode to Always on.
  7. Click Save.
