Need a Modem?
BYO Modem
You have the freedom to Bring Your Own (BYO) device to use with your Quokka Net – Lynham Networks Internet connection.
If you already own a router or modem, you might be able to use it with your service.
You will need to check that it is compatible to be sure that it will work.
Compatible Routers/Modems need the following:
- a WAN Ethernet Port
- The ability to connect to the Internet using PPPoE (Username and Password) via the WAN Ethernet Port.
See our Help Article – Lynham Networks – Supported Routers/Modems for more information, a list of Compatible and Incompatible Routers.
Please reach out to our team if you are unsure if your modem/router/gateway will be compatible.

Quokka Net is an independently owned service provider with a focus on providing residential internet in Australia. Quokka Net is backed by our parent company URL Networks Pty Ltd.
At Quokka Net we like to keep things simple and happy, that’s why we do not impose lengthy contracts. Simply purchase a modem or bring your own and get going; if you’re not 100% happy you can cancel with 30 days notice and that’s it.
Yes
While our services use a shared public IP address by default, you can choose to add a static public IP address to your connection. A static IP gives you a fixed, dedicated address on the internet, which can be useful for remote access, hosting services, or certain advanced applications. This optional add-on is available for $5.50 per month — just let us know if you’d like it enabled.
Who needs this?
A static IP is typically needed by customers who want to access their home or business network remotely, run servers or CCTV systems, use VPNs that require a fixed IP, or operate specialised business or security applications. Most everyday internet users won’t need this option.
No, there is no service activation fee.
If you are in a new housing development or opt to have a new line Quokk-nected you may be liable for an additional charge as advised by Opticomm. This will be advised when confirming your order.
Potential Charges
- New Development Charge (Class 5 premises only) $300.
- New Connection Charge (Class 2 premises only) $330 (without MATV).
- New Connection Charge (Class 2 premises only) $550 (with MATV).

Service transfers are sometimes completed in as little as 30 minutes! That’s some fast Quokk!
If there has never been an Opticomm Quokk-nection at your location, an appointment will likely be required. Appointment timeframes are usually 1-4 weeks. An Opticomm Quokk-fessional will come to your property to install any equipment and get you up and Quokk-nected.
On this network, internet services are delivered using IPoE (also known as DHCP). This is the simplest and most common connection method and works automatically with most modern routers — no usernames or passwords are required to get online.
PPPoE is not supported on this network. All connections, including those with a static public IP address, are provided via IPoE. For most customers, this means an easy, plug-and-play setup with reliable performance. If you’re unsure whether your router supports IPoE, or need help with setup, our support team is happy to help.
By default, our internet services use Carrier-Grade NAT (CG-NAT), which means your connection shares a public IP address with other customers. This setup works perfectly for everyday activities like web browsing, streaming, video calls, and online gaming. If you need a dedicated public IP address — for example, to host services, access your network remotely, or use specific business applications — you can add a static public IP to your service for $5.50 per month.
The New Development Fee (NDF) is a one-off, industry-standard fee (typically $300) that is charged on the initial connection of a new premises to fibre-ready Internet in Australia.
The NDF is listed in the Australian Government’s Telecommunications Infrastructure in New Developments (TIND) policy as a standard NBN fee. It was introduced so the cost of new developments is shared between the developer, the first resident and the telco installing the infrastructure. It is a partial recovery for the cost of deploying network infrastructure to new premises or dwellings and is an end-user contribution.
In line with other major fixed-line Network providers including NBN Co, Opticomm may charge this fee at premises classed as new developments.
What Is A New Development?
A newly-built or redeveloped property in which Opticomm infrastructure has been installed and not yet connected.
How Do I Know If It Applies To Me?
It will only apply to the first connection at each premises. We will confirm at the time of enquiry or signup if this fee applies to your property.
I Thought the Developer Had Already Paid This Fee?
The $300 NDF is a partial contribution to the cost of the infrastructure payable by the first resident. It is not to be confused with the fee a property developer pays directly to the Wholesale Network Provider, which is a separate partial contribution towards the infrastructure cost in the government policy.
I Need Assistance To Pay This Sum
We have several options available with regard to the payment of the NDF.
This fee can be paid upfront in full or broken down into monthly instalments over a 6 or 12-month period.
If you are interested in paying off your NDF in instalments, please reach out to our Support team.
Please note: if you cancel or transfer out your service during the 6 or 12-month term, the remaining instalments will become due and will be charged to your saved credit card.
